Ageez Barbershop is a subsidiary of AK Gathers Inc, trademarked by Anthony and Kim Gathers. Ageez is a family owned and operated barbershop that has been serving the valley for 25 years. Opening in Chandler, AZ in 1996 as the first “black barbershop” and expanding to Phoenix in 2008, Ageez has become a pillar in the communities it serves.
The name Ageez comes from the owner Anthony Gathers, known as “AG.” AG discovered his passion for cutting while in high school, and further evolved his passion into a reality while attending Prairie View A&M University in Texas. AG left Prairie View and came to Phoenix where he attended International Academy of Hair Design and obtained his cosmetology license. He later attended Arizona Barber College and received his license in barbering.
Anthony began his career at MaMoze Hair Center in Tempe, AZ where he was mentored by owners, Moses and Mattie White. Anthony left the nest once Moses retired and opened his own shop in Chandler, AZ in 1996. God gave Anthony the vision to expand to the Southside of Phoenix and he opened September 2008. Marrying shortly after, Anthony and Kim have worked together to ensure Ageez has made its mark in the community. From hosting community car shows, to Get out the Vote campaigns, Mocha Moms book nook for kids, a tutoring program, ASU School of Nursing Affordable Healthcare Act forum, Why Men Cry in the Dark depression forum, Mayor Greg Stanton and the City of Phoenix General Plan, Conversations with a Cop, Reading Room, and most recently When We All Vote and Future Stars STEM Volunteers.
